Practice at home works best in short, calm sessions. These tips help parents support SafeStart students between lessons.

Drive with your child a few times a week, for no longer than 30 minutes each time.
Make sure your child is well-rested before they get behind the wheel.
Wear flat, secure footwear — avoid flip-flops.
Keep smartphones out of reach and minimize distractions.
Praise good habits instead of yelling after mistakes.
Give instructions early and encourage looking ahead.
Start in quiet residential areas at calm times of day.
